Culbertson Mansion Guest Rooms:

During your travels, did you ever wake up in the middle of the night, turn on the light, and wonder where you are?  Most modern hotel and motel rooms are like that.  They're pretty much the same wherever you go, whether you're in Boston or Los Angeles...or Louisville.

Small inns and bed & breakfasts have become popular as more and more travelers have discovered the pleasure of experiencing the regional charm of an area.  In a small inn, each guest room is unique.  The furnishings and atmosphere are usually one of a kind, and have age-old stories to tell.

At the Samuel Culbertson Mansion, Louisville's most  historic inn, we are especially keen to give you a sense of place and history along with modern comforts.  In our room names we remember some of the people and events that shaped us.  At breakfast, you'll usually dine at the same table that has hosted Kentucky Derby dignitaries, Spanish-American War generals, even an ex-confederate general...and more recently well known figures of film, TV, sports and politics (though, alas, our privacy policy won't let us boast who they are.)

All rooms have premium cable TV with VCR.

The Annie Fellows Johnston Room
queen-size half-canopy bed, Antique Victorian Kentucky furnishings, private bath
$109/night

The Annie Fellows Johnston Room, is named for the famed turn-of-the-(last-) century author of young people's novels and a close friend of the Culbertson family. This room contains a variety of the author's memorabilia, including a complete set of her original Little Colonel books, ever so worn by the generations of young readers who loved them.  One of the dressers in the room traveled west on a covered wagon, and back again when it was found the pastures really weren't greener there!   (Much like Annie Fellows Johnston herself!)

The East Room
king-size bed, French decor,
private bath
$119/night

The mansion's traditional guest room for over a century, the East Room faces the morning sun.  Decorated with a European flair in white and gold, green & blue The room has a large beautiful hearth topped with an antique mirror from an English manor. Of course, there is also cable television with HBO & Showtime and a VCR.

The President's Room
Large room, King-size canopy bed
Private bath with shower
$129/night

The President's Room was the master bedroom of the mansion. We named it because the master of the house, Samuel Culbertson, was president of Churchill Downs during the 1920s and 1930s.  In this room you can almost feel the history of the Kentucky Derby around you. Can you hear the call to the post?  Will you sleep in this room and dream of the famous Kentucky Derby races of Citation, Galahadion, War Admiral, and Whirlaway?  You wouldn't be the first!  The room has a king-size full canopy bed, coffee maker, and a large private bath with a shower.

The Knights of Kentucky Suite
Two large rooms, King-size bed
private bath, wet-bar, computer station
$179/night

The Knights of Kentucky Suite is our most luxurious guest suite, and one of the finest in the city.  Adjoining the President's Room (which can be combined to make a two-bedroom super-suite), you'll find a sitting room with a baby grand piano, vintage empire sofa, comfortable Victorian wing-back chairs and a writing desk.  A king-size half-canopy bed is the focal point of the bedroom.  An adjoining room contains a wet bar area, computer station with LAN Internet access, and a fax/phone with free outgoing local calls.  These rooms were once the rooms of the "Two Little Knights of Kentucky,"  the virtuous heart-throbs of many a young girl in Victorian America!

The Little Colonel Suite
 private bath
and wet-bar room
$139/night

The Little Colonel Suite is another spacious, bright and sunny room adjacent to the mansion's third-floor ball-room.  You'll sleep in a Queen-size rococo style bed and enjoy a birds-eye view of the beautifully preserved Victorian streetscape that has made Old Louisville famous.  The suite includes a wet bar room with a small refrigerator, microwave and coffeemaker.  Like all the guest rooms in the Culbertson Mansion, private bath, cable television and a VCR is included.

The General Lawton Suite
 large space with kitchenette
Queen size and full bed, private bath
$139/night

The General Lawton Suite honors our "Uncle Henry," General Henry W. Lawton, a hero of the Civil War, Indian and Spanish American Wars, who last visited the Culbertson Mansion in November 1898.  The suite, which resembles a field command headquarters, is nevertheless worthy of a General, and contains a number of artifacts directly related to General Lawton and his life.

The Louisville Room
 Third Floor Room
Queen size bed, private bath
$109/night

This is a newly renovated third floor room, near the Lawton Suite, away from the street with queen size bed, private bath, basic cable with VCR/DVD.

We have a selection of movies on videotape, as well as reading material of every type for your enjoyment.  Check our book of menus from Louisville's best restaurants to help you find just the right place to go out to eat.

We're already looking forward to your visit!
